(Houston) – Hundreds of Texas A&M University alumni, friends and family gathered for the 12th Man Kickoff Team (12thMKOT) Foundation’s 6th Annual Aggie Legends Banquet in Houston to honor Gray Reed attorney and former Texas Secretary of State Jack M. Rains '60.
With over 45 years of experience as an attorney, mediator, business executive, consultant, and public servant, Rains has accumulated a broad and varied foundation of experience that gives him a unique perspective and innovative approach to the practice of law. Rains' public service record includes serving as Texas' 95th Secretary of the State and his candidacy for Governor of Texas in 1990. Over his career, in recognition of his service and accomplishments, Rains has received numerous awards and honors. Rains earned his bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University and his law degree from the University of Houston. He has been named a Distinguished Alumnus by both universities and also named an Outstanding Graduate of the College of Law. He was named Houston’s Outstanding Aggie in 1983. In 1999 Rains was inducted into the Museum of the Gulf Coast.
In 2007, Texas A&M Coach Jackie Sherrill created the 12thMKOT Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides scholarships to Texas A&M University students based on need. The foundation is comprised of more than 80 former Texas A&M University football players, some of whom serve on the Foundation’s board along with Coach Jackie Sherrill, Dr. John J. Koldus and others.
Also recognized at the Aggie Legends Banquet was Chairman of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo R.H. "Steve" Stevens '62. Rains and Stevens told stories of their time on campus and their hopes for Texas A&M's future.
