Max Van Benschoten
Associate

I seek to understand my clients’ businesses and goals, not just their tax matters. Once I understand the bigger picture and what’s at stake, I can design an effective tax strategy and serve as a zealous advocate to negotiate and close the deal.

Max Van Benschoten advises partnerships, corporations, entrepreneurs and investors on the federal income tax consequences of complex domestic and cross-border transactions, including inbound and outbound tax planning, tax-free mergers and acquisitions, joint venture formations, internal reorganizations, preferred stock offerings, and private equity transactions. He has the ability and experience leading projects to completion and working with his client’s advisors to develop strategies that maximize tax savings, minimize risk and achieve the client’s business objectives.

Max solves challenging tax problems for clients across a broad range of industries, from commercial real estate and energy to healthcare, technology, and much more. In addition to M&A transactions, he advises clients on a variety of other important tax planning matters, such as maximizing energy tax credits, strategic planning for partnerships, international tax withholding matters, planning for partnership audits, cancellation of debt income, and tax issues that may arise in bankruptcy and insolvency scenarios.
