Last we covered the basics of overtime. This month, you get the other half - exempt vs non-exempt employees. As if there were not enough potential for trouble with just calculating overtime, there are a myriad of different ways people can be exempt from overtime. I cover the basics. So, if you run a fish cannery in Alaska and are eligible for that exemption you'll have to call me to find out how to do it.

This may be one of the few pieces that might actually help you save money instead of just avoiding losing it. If you are treating everyone as an hourly employee or, at least, eligible for overtime, you may be throwing money away. If you can properly characterize an employee as exempt, you could save thousands of dollars a year.
