Martindale-Hubbell selected Gray Reed as a 2014 U.S. Top Ranked Law Firm, and, with Fortune Magazine, named Gray Reed one of the top nationally ranked law firms in the United States. Gray Reed was honored as a Dynasty Law Firm by the University of Houston Law Center in 2008. This was the first time the University of Houston has ever honored a law firm.
Exceptionally Talented Lawyers
Chambers & Partners recognized two attorneys - Jason Brookner (bankruptcy/restructuring) and Andrew Meyercord (healthcare) - as leading lawyers in Texas in the Chambers USA 2018 legal directory. Glen Eichelberger (trusts/estates) was recognized in the 2018 Chambers High Net Worth Guide.
Best Lawyers in America (Woodward/White, Inc.) recognized 28 Gray Reed attorneys in its 2019 rankings. This was an increase from the 26 attorneys named in 2018.
Best Lawyers is the oldest peer-review publication in the legal profession. Selection as a Best Lawyer in America is the result of a peer-review survey in which more than 36,000 leading attorneys cast almost 4.4 million votes on the legal abilities of other lawyers in their practice areas.
Twenty-nine Gray Reed attorneys were recognized in 2018 as among the nation’s top legal talent by Texas Super Lawyers (Thomson-Reuters). Only five percent of nominated lawyers in each state are selected for inclusion.
Texas Super Lawyers (Thomson-Reuters) also designated 24 Gray Reed lawyers as Rising Stars in 2018. These “Rising Stars” are considered up-and-coming attorneys who are under the age of 40 or have been practicing for 10 years or less.
H-Texas Magazine designated three of Gray Reed’s Houston-based lawyers as "Top Lawyers" in 2014. Only two percent of the nominated lawyers are selected for inclusion.

Five Star Wealth Magazine and Texas Monthly named Gray Reed attorney Norm Lofgren a "Five Star Estate Planning Attorney" in 2015. Norm has received this honor since 2010.
Leaders in the Community
We believe we have a responsibility to help strengthen our communities, and encourage our attorneys to invest in their community through pro bono work, government service, service to the Bar, teaching and more.
Jack Rains served as Texas’ 95th Secretary of State and as the founding Chairman of the Board of the Harris County - Houston Sports Authority, which brought Reliant Stadium to Houston.
Robert Eckels served as Harris County Judge—a role in which he oversaw the executive, legislative and judicial functions of a Texas county that is called home by more than 3.6 million people (one of the largest counties in the nation). He also served six terms as a state representative in the Texas Legislature.
Jeff Leach currently serves as the State Representative for the Texas House of Representatives for District 67.
William Morris served as Associate Judge for the Harris County 247th Family District Court from 1982 to 1993.
Joe Coleman received the Baylor Lawyer of the Year award in 2008, which is given annually to an outstanding alumnus who has brought honor and distinction to Baylor Law School and the legal profession. Joe served on the Baylor Board of Regents from 1998-2007. He was also a member of the Baylor Foundation Board of Directors.
Claude Wilson, who is also a CPA, served as President of the Texas Society of CPAs and the Dallas CPA Society.
Jack Emmott, an advocate for those with disabilities, has served on numerous organizations and boards that support those with disabilities. In particular, he Chaired the Coalition for Barrier Free Living, the Houston Center for Independent Living, the Houston Mayor's Committee for Employment of People with Disabilities, and the City of Houston Commission on Disabilities.
Because of the contributions made by Gray Reed attorneys and staff to the Houston community, the firm was recognized as an Outstanding Mid-Size Firm by the Houston Bar Foundation in 2017.

In the 2010, the Houston Chronicle ranked Gray Reed & McGraw 14th on its Top Workplaces in Houston (in the small companies category) list. Of the law firms that competed, Gray Reed & McGraw ranked first.
Most recently, the firm was honored as one of the “Best Places to Work in 2017” by the Houston Business Journal and the Dallas Business Journal. The Houston office ranked 5th in the large company category, the highest ranking law firm in the category and one of only three law firms listed. The Dallas office ranked 24th in the medium company category, the overall highest ranking Texas-based law firm.
