Three Gray Reed Attorneys Earn Board Certification

Gray Reed is pleased to announce that Gray Reed Partner Darin Brooks and Associates Ashley DeHart and Rachel Poynter are Board Certified in Insurance Law, Family Law and Health Law, respectively, after passing the challenging and prestigious 2023 Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS) exam.

Darin Brooks

Serving as Gray Reed's Insurance Law Practice Group Leader, Brooks focuses his insurance practice on advising clients on complex coverage issues, providing coverage opinions and resolving related disputes before courts and arbitration panels in Texas and throughout the country. He is also a valuable resource for colleagues and clients who need his unique insight when policy interpretation questions, scope of insurance needs and other insurance issues arise in various disputes and transactions.

Brooks is part of the first class of Board Certified Insurance Law attorneys as the exam was first offered by TBLS in 2023.

Ashley DeHart

DeHart is a compassionate advisor and tenacious courtroom advocate with significant experience representing clients in challenging family law cases all over Texas. Her practice covers all aspects of family law, including divorce proceedings, complex marital property characterization and valuation, premarital and post-marital agreements, enforcement actions, child custody and support matters, modification proceedings, adoptions and other child-related issues.

With DeHart's certification, the firm now has five attorneys Board Certified in Family Law by the TBLS.

Rachel Poynter

Poynter focuses her practice on advising healthcare providers on operational, transactional and regulatory matters. These providers include hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, physician practices, behavioral health providers, clinically integrated networks, long-term care facilities, clinical research entities, pharmacies, laboratories and other ancillary service providers. Before joining Gray Reed, Rachel served as the compliance and privacy officer of four physician-owned hospitals.

With Poynter's certification, the firm now has four attorneys Board Certified in Health Law by the TBLS.

In total, Gray Reed has a total of 29 Board Certified attorneys across several other areas of law including Bankruptcy; Civil Appellate; Civil Trial; Commercial Real Estate; Construction; Estate Planning & Probate; Health; Labor & Employment; Oil, Gas and Mineral Law; and Tax.

TBLS Board Certification is a voluntary designation program certifying Texas attorneys in 27 specific areas of law. Out of 110,000 lawyers that are licensed to practice in Texas, only 7,050 are Board Certified. These lawyers have voluntarily applied for board certification, have a minimum of five years of practice experience (with at least three years in specific legal areas), completed at least 60 hours of continuing legal education, and passed a rigorous exam. Once certified, these lawyers meet additional criteria to continue their education and involvement in their specialty area as well as reapply for Board Certification every five years.
